Blank (short film)

A note from the London Big Fridge International Film Festival

"BLANK is a visually arresting and conceptually bold short that tackles the obsessive pursuit of bodily perfection with surreal, satirical flair. What begins as a sensual and familiar routine morphs into a chilling commentary on self-erasure, control, and the absurd standards imposed on the female body. The film’s strength lies in its ability to translate a deeply internal crisis into visceral, stylised action.

The direction is confident and uncompromising, drawing viewers into a sleek, hyper-controlled visual environment that mirrors the protagonist’s desire for flawlessness. As she methodically shaves away each part of herself, the imagery becomes increasingly disturbing - yet hypnotic - delivering a transformation that is both physical and existential. The final image lingers long after, daring us to reflect on the cost of ‘perfection’ when identity itself becomes disposable.

With its sharp editing, minimalistic set design, and clinical yet intimate cinematography, BLANK offers a tightly constructed descent into absurdity. The experimental tone is balanced by a clear narrative arc, elevating the concept beyond metaphor into a gripping piece of body-horror comedy that provokes thought as much as it entertains.

Ultimately, BLANK is a daring exploration of gender, self-image, and societal rejection, wrapped in a unique blend of absurdism and poignancy. It’s a short film that is both visually stunning and thematically resonant - an unforgettable experience in under ten minutes."
